Term 3 begins!! How exciting - I've really been looking forward to this term; I really hope to nail body mechanics and cement my knowledge before moving onto beginning acting - at which point I will be 1/2 way through! Scary stuff :S
I'm in a new class taught by mentor Jason Martenson. He's worked at Double Negative and BlueSky studios :) Should be a great term, I'm really glad that I have him as a mentor.
We started this term with a lecture about composing a shot. We've been told constantly not to move the camera in our shots as it is easy for students, upon discovering the ability to move cameras, to get a little crazy with it! This lecture teaches us about the use of camera movements to strengthen the action and to even become a new character in the scene. Whenever a camera is moved there must be a clear and definite reason for it doing so.
With that in mind I designed my first shot. Nothing too challenging for the first piece - a man picking up a box! I've chosen to keep the camera still as well but next shot I will be a little more adventurous. Here's the reference and planning:
