Term 3 Week 6: advanced overlap and anticipation

This week started with a lecture hosted by Bobby Beck and Shawn Kelly on overlap and anticipation. It's great to go over these key priniciples of animation again as it builds on the previous lectures and revises the knowledge learned previously. We looked at animated clips of examples of overlapping action in the head and spine, the shoulders - arms - hands and the legs - feet - toes. We also went over reversals where we make contrasting shapes with the body e.g. forward and backward 'C' shapes and 'S' shapes which make the animation so beautiful and interesting.

We went over anticipation where it's used to communicate with the audience, sell a joke or gag and is used to direct the viewers eye to a particular part of the screen to makes sure they see the action. It's also under used in order to scare or shock an audience.

I've continued to progress my shot to splining and refining the action following my eCritique from Jason. I've changed the camera motion so that it makes sense. Basically before there was no reason for the camera to move like it did in my first blocking pass but now I've made it stop moving at the swing of the net. I've also created better arcs and hang times. The contrast in the downs and ups has been pushed to get a better sense of weight. My mentor is also impressed with the animation of the butterfly - I'm quite pleased with that :)

Here's this weeks hand in:-
