Term 4 Week 2: Introduction to Pantomime

This week began with a lecture about pantomime with Mr. Bobby Beck! Awesome. So a full acting shot is considered dialogue + use of props and mime is acting without dialogue or props. Pantomime falls between these two styles as you are able to use props but not dialogue. Pantomime is about expressing the emotion of the character through their body language and interaction with their environment. The main emphasis of this week is to try to think alternatively about acting choices and to not use the first idea that you get. This is to prevent poor or cliche acting appearing in the work. The first idea attained with regard to acting choice is usually one that has been used many times before and one that most people have seen. This makes it over used and also cliche. Also skipping this exploration stage is detrimental to finding great acting choices which are not immediately clear.

In the Q&A session with David, after we all explained how we went about planning our ideas, it became clear that we all went a wrong!!!! EEEEKKKKK. None of us mentioned anything about timing or said we used a stopwatch to time the actions while performing them. This is a big problem! As animation is all about timing. But I've learnt from this and will be thinking about timing more from now on!!! Anyway my assignment for the week was to block my shot and here it is :-
