This week Jason Schleifer gave us a lecture on secondary action. Secondary action is any action done by the character which supports the main idea of the shot. This means any small action which helps to keep the character alive or break up a repetitive motion. The secondary action can strengthen the emotion of the character e.g. touching their face or mouth when feeling uncomfortable. It also enhances the believability and personality of that character. Any secondary action must never distract from or over power the main idea.
I had a great Q&A session with my class and David. We went over problems in the refining stages of our shots and explained the process of polishing.
