Term 3 Week 4: Locomtion
The week began with a lecture from Dave Mullins on locomotion. We looked at weight, balance and posing - lines of action. He suggested an exercise where you stand and lift one leg in the air, then stand with your feet wider apart and try and repeat it, it's impossible without moving your body weight on top of the supporting leg. This shows that making sure our characters are in-balance throughout the scene is important for believability purposes. When a character picks up something heavy - his position must alter to counter balance this new extra weight which is trying to pull downwards.
